mom lalonde: *is explicitly a neglectful parent not fit or ready to be raising a child despite her love for her daughter, shes caused her life long mental and emotional trauma and even ended up passing on her alcoholic tendencies to rose, had an established relationship as a crappy mom from early on in her first strife where rose fakes a suicide attempt to get attention, which also falls in line rose being a goth and the “goth kids are goth to get attention at home” stereotype, because as a child mom would just get drunk on the couch and rose would have to get by on her own which is reflected in her “maturity” which was always just a facade, but also her intimacy and connection issues are caused by a neglectful parent that she still loved a lot, it effected her so much she was unable to tell her girlfriend of 3 years that she loves her, and rarely express genuine emotion without sarcasm or using her psychotherapy shtick to turn the tables on everyone else. mom was so bad at communicating with her child that in the rare occasions that she did, rose would take it as “ironic” and meant to tease her because she wasn’t used to her mom showing genuine care towards her, even if that’s exactly what mom was trying to do. she tries her hardest to be a good parent but that doesn’t reverse the psychological trauma it caused her daughter, who she wasn’t even ready to have, and we’ve been shown time and time again how badly this effected rose throughout the comic*
